SAX 2323 b/s – KOGAN / TCHAIKOVSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO
1960 Columbia stereo recording on blue/silver label, catalogue number SAX 2323 – Leonid Kogan playing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto & Meditation, with Constantin Silvestri conducting the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra.
The disc has been cleaned with L’Art du Son cleaning fluid on a Loricraft professional cleaning machine and has shiny playing surfaces. The record was very critically listened to using SME & Kondo equipment. Side 1 has a few low-level crackles for the first 2/3 minutes. On Side 2 some low-level crackle background noise is discernible in the quietest sections of the concerto but not in the Meditation. This does not detract from the musical enjoyment and on many sound systems would probably not be audible. The only visual defect is a tiny mark in the Meditation which produces 3 clicks. There is no distortion at any point.
The sleeve is intact but has light edge and corner creasing; the laminate is puckered at bottom front edge (not detached). The rear has brown age spots and discolouration.
