SAXO 2548 Debussy - JEUX & IMAGES for ORCHESTRA

Spectacular Orchestral Sound & Cleaned by Degritter

This is simply extraordinarily beautiful and dynamic music & beautifully recorded. It is performed by André Cluytens conducting the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra. A release date is not given but it must be in the early 60's with this Australian pressing being the 1st.   The mono & stereo versions used the same jacket printing, with a sticker added for a stereo record.

I once owned 72 lineal feet of mostly pristine LP’s, many played maybe once or not at all — I was collecting way too much!  I pared down to a smaller collection after selling my state-of-the-art stereo system (VPI turntable / Graham tonearm / Benz Micro cartridge) about 20-30 + years ago. This record has been stored unplayed under ideal conditions since that disposal. My decision to end my "high-end" playing days was also due to a deteriorating hearing condition. I have only played this LP twice, once back then in my "high-end" days and once again recently before offering it now for sale.

Overall LP condition:  Appears unplayed and visually overall it is excellent (no scratches).  It is in very nice shape for a 60 year old LP!  It plays flat too.  The LP’s spine hole is clean and round.

Overall character of play: It plays very nicely  — with good orchestral balance between the lower mid range and the upper mid range, enhanced by all the orchestral color of this music.  Simply lovely to listen to!  Background vinyl noise is low - the Degritter record cleaning certainly aids in lowering background sounds!  There are many quiet passages that sound nice.  There is an unusual clarity to the entire LP that is special.

I have no qualms representing this particular LP as excellent sounding overall, with "defects" having minimal impact on the music.  While I conservatively rate it as VG+, it's overall sound quality makes me want to say it is really an "Excellent" to M-record.  It just sparkles even if it isn't perfect. There appears to me to be some very minor manufacturing defects (soft thumps) that I can't ascribe to human use.  The following observations come from a single play and the loudness of any described "sounds"is subjective obviously.  The music, being so captivating, makes it easy to miss things too.  There are NOT any loud pops or tics.
Side 1 Band 1  About 1/2" into the LP, you suddenly "sense" some very soft "thumps" slightly sounding through the music, then just as quickly no more.  These are the "manufacturing defects" referred to in previous paragraph.  I did not replay the record to count them and I clearly feel they have minimal impact on the music playing.  I could only hear these types of sounds in two spots.
Between Bands 1 & 2  two light tic sounds.
Side 2 Band 1  A light tic detected about 3/4" into the LP.
Side 2 Band 2   Several soft "thumps" begin between Bands 1 & 2 & lead into the start of Band 2, becoming "buried" by the music - similar to what I described near the beginning of side 1.   Brief and quite unobtrusive IMHO.
I need to emphasize, I can not hear really high frequency light tics, if present.  I doubt that is a problem due to the record's condition, plus it has been cleaned multiple times with my Degritter on the longest cycle (app 15+ minutes of ultrasonic treatment.
Jacket Condition is very nice.  Front art work is laminated - and the LP has left a light imprint of it’s outer edge that you can see in the right light because the jacket material is thin.   The art work is clean and I’ve tried to render the album’s original colors as true as I can (I’m a photographer).
Back text is very clean and readable. The LP spine is clean and readable.  The structural integrity of the jacket is excellent.  On a few LP's I bought about 30 years ago from Australia, the owner wrote a "T" in the upper right area of the text.  This is one of them.

The LP comes with a quality 6 mil outer sleeve over the jacket. When shipped the LP will be removed from jacket to prevent tears & damage to the jacket.

The LP will be shipped insured Priority Mail.

Equipment used to evaluate and care for the record: VPI Scout turntable & Ortophon Black MM cartridge with Shibata stylus. Each LP is ultrasonically cleaned for a minimum of 15 minutes by a Degritter record cleaning machine and a de-ionizing clean air tool used instead of brushes.
