RARE 1967 ORIGINAL first pressing of a leading teen garage band from Canada that had such a swinging sound with a great great vocalist, they should have been huge had they been from the USA or British and with the right promotion backing them...
Les Sultans were one of the most popular groups to emerge from the Québecois Garage Band scene of the mid 60s. Originally an outfit known as Les Dowries, they added lead vocalist (and local hearthrob) Bruce Huard and changed their name to Les Sultans. A number of singles were to follow, but it wasn't until they signed with Teledisc in 1966 that things really started happening. For reasons that aren't entirely clear to me, the band recorded a live album in early 1968, Les Sultans "En Personne" , that was billed as their "Spectacular Goodbye". It was apparently a HUGE record in Québec, and featured high energy covers well as their popular originals all persormed in the same garage/beat/punk fashion as the early Rolling Stones ... the content and enthusiasm throughout the entire album on both sides should surprise more than a few collectors ...chronicled the group's final concert before some 6,000 fans at Montreal's Starovan Club. The screeching fans (must have been quite a concert) and the echo laden sound recall something from 1964 rather than 1968. Overlooking the technical limitations of the raw & live recording, the performances pack a bigger kick than 90% of mega-selling in-concert sets. In terms of musical selection the collection features a mixture of popular hits and originals. Besides the strong performances, the set's unique in that it shows the band performing in both French and English (quite rare for Quebec-based outfits). The covers (Beatles, Them), are highly energetic; check out their hyperactive cover of 'Can I Get a Witness'. In contrast the original numbers are largely killer. Standout performances include the near perfect pop-rock perfection ''Pour qui Pourquoi, the fuzz-propelled rocker ''Tu est Impossible' and the pretty ballad 'Pardonne-Moi. They also turn in a nice guitar jangle-rocker 'Le Poupee Qui Fait Non'. Simply a great album that we keep coming back to and one of the few live albums we would give a TOP rating to ...

CONDITION: The cover is solid all over VG++ having a tiny delete drill and a few little minor shelf wear specks nothing near bad and over all very acceptable for an obscure 42 year old collectible...
The vinyl still retains original gloss, Visual VG(+) having scattered light hairlines that reflect under strong light but not so apparent otherwise, nothing you can feel, top surface superficial. The deep groove play tested very strong with only minor occasional low surface here or there, and ultimately plays enjoyable without bothersome audio.
