Description

Folk Music of the United States: Afro-American Spirituals, Work Songs, and Ballads / From the Archive of American Folk Song / Edited by Alan Lomax (The Library of Congress / Music Division / Recording Laboratory / AAFS L3).

In the lengthy series of LPs produced by the Library of Congress, derived from recordings made by the Lomaxes and others for the Archive of American Folk Song during the 1930s and '40s. This one contains celebrated performances such as The Blood-Stained Banders by Jimmie Strothers (vocal/banjo), spirituals by Dock & Henry Reed and Vera Hall, and numerous ring shouts, group songs and solo songs by James (Iron Head) Baker, Allen Prothero, Kelly Pace and other inmates of penitentiaries. On red vinyl. With 12-page booklet by Alan Lomax.

Trouble So Hard/Choose Your Seat and Set Down/The New Buryin' Ground/Run Old Jeremiah/Ain't No More Cane on This Brazos/Long Hot Summer Days/Jumpin' Judy/Rosie/The Grey Goose/John Henry &c -- 17 songs in all.

Condition: this is a dealer's stock copy that has never been played. The reason for grading it as used is that there is a tight slit of about 2" in the top edge; the top left and bottom left corners are bumped and slightly creased; and all the corners are a little worn. Booklet as new. Scarce and historically important.
