PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. David Bowie's final concert appearance as Ziggy Stardust was at the Hammersmith Odeon Theatre, London on the 3rd July 1973. The concert was the 60th of 40 dates (matinees included) and last of the 3rd UK Ziggy Stardust Tour. It has since become known as "The Retirement Gig."
David Bowie : "This show will stay the longest in our memories, not just because it is the end of the tour but because it is the last show we'll ever do (with the Spiders.)"
This concert was also unique because it featured Jeff Beck - one of Mick Ronson's guitar heroes. He appeared towards the end of the concert and played on "The Jean Genie-Love Me Do" (augmented by Bowie on harmonica) and "Round and Round", these songs were not included in either the official concert album nor the video/film/DVD of the event (ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS: THE MOTION PICTURE). Famed producer Tony Visconti has revealed that Jeff Beck was not satisfied with his guitar solo, and was allowed to re-record his solo for a pending LP/DVD release -- only for Visconti and Bowie to find out later that it was really his bell-bottom trousers he objected to, and he was trying to find a way to get himself cut out of the film & recording!"
David Bowie was burned out by the time his Ziggy Stardust tour hit London's Hammersmith Odeon on July 3rd, 1973. He'd been touring for a solid year with practically no breaks. During that time he went from the half-forgotten guy who sang "Space Oddity" to an international superstar. His Ziggy Stardust character was a glam rock icon, and teenagers all across the world had his poster on their walls. Bowie's manager, Tony DeFries, saw no reason to stop. He had plans to take Ziggy all over the globe in 1974, but Bowie had other plans.
The Hammersmith gig itself was phenomenal. Keyboardist Mike Garson remembers: "I was pissed off though because Tony DeFries had come over and made me sign something before the show. I think I made $52 from that performance, the soundtrack album and the rights of the movie and that didn't seem fair! What people don't know about that gig is that I opened the show on solo piano. David asked me to be his opening act. So for just fifteen minutes I took some of his hits, "Changes", "Life On Mars?" and "Ziggy", and made a medley for the gig. I came out to do the spot and I was scared to death. So was Bowie. He told me backstage that he was more frightened for me that night than for him!" -
