\                                   USA - Billingsgate Records - 1004

AMAZINGLY STILL SEALED (never opened) original 1972 USA pressing of the very first and best SCORPIONS album, not to be confused with the later hard/metalrock band -- this is the groups earliest incarnation way back when they were a powerful heavy prog-psych band featuring two dynamic guitarists (the Shenker brothers) playing off one another in doomy dark hardrock based songs; lots of echoy leads, wide range vocals, ominous freaky  atmospherics, acidrock passages amid tight electrified playing -- it's quite impressive from start to finish...

...Rudolf Schenker, the band's rhythm guitarist, launched the band in 1965. At first, the band had beat influences and Schenker himself did the vocals. Things began to come together in 1969 when Schenker's younger brother Michael and vocalist Klaus Meine joined the band. In 1972, the group recorded and released their debut album Lonesome Crow, with Lothar Heimberg on bass and Wolfgang Dziony on drums. Sounding somewhat like a Krautrock version of Black Sabbath with a slight hippie vibe, Despite being released in 72, this album is very 60s. With dreamy atmosphere, prominent bass and fiery lead guitar, overall sound is quite comparable with Jimi Hendrix, Cream and early Deep Purple; the ending epic Lonesome Crow contains a lot of jamming and psychedelia in the spirit of time. It’s an overall outstanding album with a sense of doomy adventure...not a bad track on either side, highlights are everywhere!
