Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. A Brilliant assortment of UNDERGROUND PROGRESSIVE GEMS from the early '70s ... finding an unplayed 45 year old original copy of this album would be more than pretty hard....
When "taster" albums were at their best, Picnic A Breath of Fresh Air has to be one of the best cult albums of it's time. A really great collection of tracks.
The UK Harvest label was launched in 1969 to take advantage of the progressive rock market, and like many record labels at the time, they produced a budget-priced showcase album of their artists. Their roster of artists was large and interesting enough to support a double album. The result was an eclectic mixture of traditional folk, hard rock, psychedelia and progressive rock obscurities.
The inclusion of Embryo, without the approval of Pink Floyd, and which the band considered unfinished, resulted in the album's prompt withdrawal. Some editions do not credit the track to Pink Floyd on the inside cover.
In 1970, the experiment of progressive rock had just begun, and not yet jelled into the mannered form that would later bring on the masses of collectors . This album's diversity reflects the many different sorts of bands flying under the Harvest Flag, giving the listening an historical document of sorts -- as follows:
1. Into the Fire - Deep Purple - thriller heavy blues based rock by the band soaring.
2. Mother Dear - Barclay James Harvest - string heavy folkish rock.
3 Embryo - Pink Floyd - Roger Water's classic FLOYD song
4. Twisted Track - The Battered Ornaments - Fantastic as is all their gems released.
5.Glenlogie - Dolly and Shirley Collins - period UK folk singer gals with plenty of charm.
6. The Good Mr. Square - The Pretty Things - Anti-establish character bashing in splendid Pretty Things harmony.
7. Song of the Ages - Roy Harper - Excellent piece by England's most unsung hero from his Flat Baroque and Berserk album. Moody folkish rock with excellent arrangement.
8. This Worried Feeling - Bakerloo - Blitzing 6.30 British blues jam ala CREAM. Their LP sells for $250 - $300.
9. Eleanor's Cake Which Ate Her - Kevin Ayers. Another great song from ex-Soft Machine singer from his "Joy of a Toy" album. Beautiful.
10. Again and Again - The Greatest Show on the Earth - Guitars, jazzy flutes - a lost gem, almost a treasure.
11. Water - Third Ear Band - atmospheric, moody acoustic piece by a band way ahead of their time. Member Simon House would soon join Hawkwind. A high point of the album.
12.Terrapin - Syd Barrett - Oh, Baby, my hair's on end about you.
13. A Glade Somewhere - Forest - The pernicious influence of The Incredible String Band reeks through this guitar, flute, harmonica folk piece. Dr. Strangely Strange meets Mellow Candle.
14. Golden Country Kingdom - Pete Brown and Piblokto! - more of the same from the Battered Ornaments crew & x-crew ~~ splendid.
15. Round and Round - Panana Limited - Jug Band song, fun for all.
16. Black Sheep of the Family - Quartermass - Organ heavy prog; great stuff.
17. Postcards of Scarborough - Michael Chapman - Modern folk by Harvest modern folk purveyor.
18. Maybe My Mind (With Eye) - Tea & Symphony - Very nice acoustic guitar and boudhran-driven song, with ethereal harmonies.
19. Sing Brother Sing - Edgar Broughton Band - guttural & gritty rock faves playing up the specialty of the obscure band. Their most famous: "Out demon out!"
