Description

Fantastic sealed album of early Elton John in a live radio concert broadcast entitled, "Elton John 11-17-70". This album is now 47 years old and is the original 1971 release on Uni/MCA Records-93105 in NM- condition overall .
The recording was taken from a live radio broadcast on 17 November 1970, hence the album's title. According to John, a live album was never planned as a release. Recordings of the broadcast, however, were popular among bootleggers which, according to John's producer eventually prompted the record label to release it as an album. Nonetheless, it became the fourth of John's records to simultaneously land in the Top 100, making him the first act to do so since The Beatles. John has stated in several interviews that he believes that this recording is his best live performance. He has also cited the album as a great showcase for the musicianship of drummer Nigel Olsson and bassist Dee Murray. It is also the only officially released example of what John's live band sounded like prior to the arrival of guitarist Davey Johnstone, who wouldn't be a member until the release of  "Honky Chateau" in 1972.
Tight shrink wrap all around three corners, with the fourth corner being the upper right (or upper left on back cover) where the original record promoters had opened up the top corner to place a "Sample Copy" sticker onto the cardboard so that it could not be resold. This was a common practice in the business and was oftentimes used with merchants, executives and promoters to get the album out to a wide variety of industry folks, most notably radio stations, DJ's and corporate sponsors.
This is a rare find and this LP is hard enough to find in original sealed condition, but to find one from 1971 that was designated a "Sample Copy" and was NOT opened is even more scarce. The spine and seams are gorgeous on this copy.
The shrink is real nice and tight with four sharp corners. The front cover has two breathe holes and the back cover has three. With this LP being so dark, it is amazing that there is but just a tiny hint of ringwear at all on both sides! Most of these LPs easily show where the record is underneath the cardboard. This is a great find for an Elton John collector or folks that like Sample/Promo limited items.
You will not be disappointed in this gem - it is gorgeous and a fantastic addition to your collection.
No store stickers, residue or shrink splitting! Beautiful tight shrink wrap with a breathe hole on both the front and back covers - super clean, original and nicely sealed album.
Please ask any further questions you may have and happy bidding!
Sorry, no international shipping outside of North America (for shipping to Canada please contact me before purchasing so that I can provide an estimate of shipping costs).
Note: I cannot and will not accept any returns on sealed LPs that have been opened or attempts at opening these sealed gems. Once the shrink is cracked open it is non-returnable (standard practice for anyone selling sealed LPs).
