 The Search Party - Montgomery Chapel (Century custom pressing `69) ORIGINAL 600-copies issue!
Cover: G++ Some coffee(?) stains on front and back, smallish writing on back cover, 1" bottom seamsplit, general coverwear and some ringwear.
Disc: VG+(+) General overall wear, some light marks, in pretty decent shape. Plays with light surface noise throughout, some of which is from the original recording mastertape itself and some of which is probably from the pressing as well as the condition. Anyway, the surface noise is noticeable on the soft songs, but barely (if at all) audible) on the loud fuzz-psych tracks.

Insanely rare original copy of one of the ultimate Christian `60s psych monsters. Defines the amateur, really-meaning-it magic of period private press artifacts. Recorded in a chapel, and the live ambience really adds to the lost-in-time otherness of this gem.

"One of the more notable discoveries of the 1990s, a primitive Christian folkrock LP which isn't great all through but hits some truly unique moods and sounds on about 2/3rds of the tracks. Obviously inspired by the westcoast "psychedelic" sounds of the era, the Search Party take compositions by their spiritual mentor, a Catholic middle-aged priest, and turn them into primitive California garage folkrock and psych with fuzz leads and raw vocals! Most Christian "folkrock" LPs suffer from still having one foot left in Sunday School, but these young seminarians have definitely broken through to the other side. Side 1 ends with an unparalleled 9-minute downer folkrock excursion with heavy soulsearching lyrics that alone makes "Montgomery Chapel" worth checking out, but beware -- it's crude, even the female vocalist has a strange edge.
