SEX PISTOLS - NO ONE IS INNOCENT - 7" SINGLE - FRENCH PRESSING 1978 - LABEL MISTAKE.
The first single to appear from McLaren's master scam The Great Rock n Roll Swindle bearing the Sex Pistols name, Malcolm's idea to use a former great train robber as the Sex Pistols new front man was never going to fool anyone, Biggs was in exile in Brazil so was never going to be anything other than a guest vocalist at best, the idea was a non starter and ended as quickly as it began.
Issued in the UK as a double A sided single McLaren insisted that the other track was My Way, Sid Vicious sticking his biker boots in the teeth of the Sinatra standard, starting off slow in a mockery of the original before ending with the signature Sid Vicious Sneer and a two fingered salute.
The single did quite well and was issued in the UK as NO ONE IS INNOCENT - McLaren pushed for it to be called - COSH THE DRIVER, to give the record some added shock value but in the end Virgin bottled it and chose to go with no one is innocent, McLaren however eventually got his way when the record was issued in France on his dodgy Matrixbest label.
This record pressing is that 'rarest' French version of the single, the differences are -
My Way was promoted to the A side, easier to advertise and promote than 'Cosh The Driver', My Way was credited to Sid Vicious and not the Sex Pistols although the usual Sex Pistols logos are on the sleeve and the record.
The sleeve is issued on thick card stock and the Sex Pistols logo and swindle lettering is changed to gold instead of the usual yellow.
No one is innocent is dropped at McLaren's insistence and the label list's the track as Cosh The Driver, the only country to do this, they also make a printing mistake and put 'BRIGGS' instead of 'BIGGS' on the label. (See Photos)
Also and most rare of all the sleeve still has its original Barclay catalogue Number sticker, most people peeled these off so very very rare to get one with the sticker still on.
This came to me via a private punk collection I bought, there is the normal expected storage / use wear to the sleeve, and a couple of light bends but overall it's in pretty good nick for it's age, (see photos) the vinyl itself is a decent example, this has been looked after quite well, it doesn't look it's 40 plus years of age, odd few surface marks that you can see under bright light but should play without any problems.
Nothing to not like about this very rare Sex Pistols gem, a Very fine addition to any Sex Pistols collection of note.
