On offer here, from my own collection, is an original 1971 UK RCA Neon label first pressing of the superb and ultra rare debut (only one) LP by the legendary UK prog/psych band Shape Of The Rain titled "Riley, Riley, Wood and Waggett".  The LP comes housed in it's lovely original matt-textured gatefold sleeve, complete with the black poly-lined inner sleeve that came with the first pressing. The vinyl is in excellent very near mint- condition whilst the lovely KEEF photographed gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition. The record plays superbly, it has barely been played during the near 40 years in my ownership. I doubt if you can find a much better original UK 1st pressing of this highly sought after prog rock LP.

CONDITION

Gatefold Sleeve: Excellent

(Matt-textured gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition with only minor light storage wear. There is only a little rubbing on the top edge and near the spine , you can see one very small white mark near the top edge on the front and inside the gatefold there are three more very tiny little white spots. The spine is fully readable and all corners are sharp. There are no tears, no rips and no writing on the sleeve)

Vinyl: Excellent + Near Mint

(The vinyl retains it's original full gloss and lustre, it displays only a couple of very feint wispy paper marks on the first track on side one. Under a strong bright light you can see an almost invisible and insignificant light paper mark on side two. The whole record plays superbly throughout with beautiful sharp crystal clear sound. A great condition original pressing of this rare UK prog album. I doubt if you can find a much better copy)

Four Northerners with a stunning album, named after them. They write beautiful, carefully-tailored songs and play them mainly acoustically, but with some clever and incisive electric guitar and piano slipped in. The music can most easily be characterised as progressive electric folk-rock with touches of harder edged psych.

Shape Of The Rain were influenced by American West Coast music and the British psych / progressive scene, as well as numerous other styles and came up with a sound that was all their own. Electric and acoustic 6 and 12-string guitars plus slide guitar were used to create a uniquely different sound to what was then the norm. They played extensively around the UK, playing at the Marquee club, the Cavern, Manchester Hard Rock and Magic Village , supporting bands such as Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Free, Fleetwood Mac, Love, Joe Cocker , as well as many others during their time as Sheffield University 'House Band' !!

The album opens with one of THE great lost singles, ‘Woman’, a wonderfully bright and fresh-faced slice of  psych, all nimble guitar riffs and insistent melodies. The next song, ‘Patterns’, is a similarly lovely dose of breezy Californian popsike. In fact the whole album is packed with great songs. ‘Castles’ and ‘Wasting My Time’ are also notable tracks, ‘Yes’ is a sub-Man jamming number. The guitar playing is excellent throughout. Overall, a fabulous example of early 70s UK prog rock with west coast psych influences.

Arguably the rarest record on the highly collectable Neon label......harder to find than Raw Material and Spring?!.......a really great album too!

Records Are Graded In The Following Way:

MINT (M): The record displays barely any signs of use, if any, with no marks or deterioration in sound quality. Extra items and cover are near perfect.

EXCELLENT (EX): Shows only minor signs of being played with very little lessening in sound quality. The Cover and extras will have some light wear and or creasing

VERY GOOD (VG): Has been played many times but has no major deterioration in sound quality, despite some noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Cover and extras will have normal wear and tear but no major defects

GOOD (G): Has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and any extras may suffer from folding, scuffing, split spine, discoloration etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable and has considerable surface noise and may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly. Covers badly damaged or partly missing

+ or - : Indicates slightly better (+) or slightly lesser (-) condition than main grade

Packing Procedures: All 12" / LPs are securely and well packed in top quality material to avoid any unnecessary damage during transit. When posted the records are removed from the cover, if possible, and placed in a PVC outer protective sleeve to prevent sleeve splits in the post. I use brand new mailers, either the envelope style with thick stiffeners to prevent any sleeve bends in transit, or the "cruciform" style that wrap around the LP. I aim to dispatch all items within 48 hours of receiving payment. It is recommended that you choose the insurance option for higher value items. As stated above I cannot be held responsible for any item(s) lost or damaged in the post that are not shipped via insured / registered mail. I always obtain a certificate proof of posting receipt for every item sent, which will complete our transaction.
