4LPs: Lukas Foss and the Los Angeles Ensemble & Percussionists - Bach-Malloch: THE ART OF FUGUING - Town Hall S-20 Multiple Mic Version 2LP Gatefold -&- Town Hall S-21 Single Stereo Mic Version 2LP Gatefold - RARE SET & VERY FINE!
One of the finest disc sets ever produced, "The Art Of Fuguing" is a dynamic recording experiment from the historic Town Hall series of recordings, which are quite rare and incredible sounding, I promise you.
Two editions were produced, one capturing the acoustic and players with multiple microphones in use; the other simply using one stereo mic.
Point in all this was to compare the two different mic presentations, to see which delivered the most natural sense of what really happened in the hall, with such a wonderful orchestration, by Malloch of Bach's THE ART OF THE FUGUE.
Now for the audio nitty-gritty:
The end result is quite startling, and entirely different. (Sheffield Town Hall decided on simple micing for the rest of their releases.)
Do note, as you play both experiments, to turn up the volume until the "view" is as real in size, in your listening room, as you can imagine.
Use only your ears in this. Do NOT, please, simply turn up the volume to the point where it usually is. This will cheat it, collapse it, hide its musical glories. Make no mistake, I promise you an extraordinary listening experience. In fact, one of the best I have ever heard, for natural balance and "being right there."
This extremely rare and historic set comes to you in covers with only mild shelf, the four discs within near mint.
