Description

Well, this is it... my final batch of records for the year. I figured I'd save some of the best, rarest, and most obscure for last, so all you collectors should start searching your couches for spare change. Thanks to everyone who has bought records from me - it's been a pleasure dealing with everyone!

Wow... Wait, I need to say that again: WOW. This is easily one of the rarest, best, and most sought-after EPs synth collectors can ever hope to find. My only other copy sold for a good bundle, and I've had quite a few discreet inquiries about this last copy, so here it is, just for you!
Let me cut this short for those who don't want to read more: this record is full of perfect synth and dark electro! It was privately released on Good Records in 1985. There. Now, for much more info, read on...

Short Wave Mystery were a band from Escalon, CA - a one-horse (now a one-Starbucks) town in the middle of bum-f&%* nowhere. Judging by the picures of them on the cover (each member dressed up in a different nerdy style - from Navy boy to Tom Sawyer), they were the ones who got beat up in high school. But man, did they use the time they presumably spent locked in their rooms to make some great music! It's melodic, dark, lo-fi, and comparable to Iron Curtain, early Xymox, Depeche Mode, Neon, Kirlian Camera, League of Nations, and others.
Because the music on this record is almost completely unheard, and because quite a few people want it, (and because I love this record myself!) I'll go over this track-by-track.
Escantino Szabo: This is an instrumental with some vocal samples. It's a great slow minimal synth instrumental, with lots of different synth lines and samples, and if this was the best track on the EP it would still be a great record.
Szabo (version): This is a different, better version of the previous track. It contains some excellent cold melodic vocals (in Polish?). This is the best song on the second side, and is a dreamy minimal electronic classic.
Nice Girl: This song proves how great these guys were with samples. The entire melody is made of the very first split second of the word "I", altered and played at different pitches. It's a mainly insturumental track, with layers and layers and layers of synths, samples, and more synths. Yet it isn't cluttered by too many sounds at all, and somehow retains a minimal feel.
Pilots: Now, if only those previous three songs made up the EP, it would be an incredible record worthy of any synth collector. But the boys in Short Wave Mystery apparently didn't want to make just a "worthy" record, they wanted to make an "essential" record... so they created the song Pilots. This song is a lo-fi dark electro classic of epic proportions. This song blows Iron Curtain's "Condos" away! With deep drumbeats, incredible synth lines, and dark, melodic vocals, this song is five and a half mintes of perfection, and is fit for any minimal electro dance party!

So there you have it, a song-by-song review of one of the rarest, most obscure, and best electro/synth EPs ever. But if you don't believe me, please email me for samples of the tracks. This record will only increase in demand, so get this copy now rather than wait again for years to possibly find another copy. This is my only extra copy, so who knows if/when it will ever be sold again! The sleeve is still in shrink, and is NM. THe vinyl has only a few light paper scuffs but is NM and plays perfectly.
