Shuggie Otis, the famous guitar prodigy, recorded only four albums for Columbia/Epic between 1969 and 1974 of which this, the fourth, was not only the last but also the greatest. Impeccable soul grooves, smooth and silky jams, meaningful lyrics and, above all, immaculate guitar playing reminiscent of the finest days of Curtis Mayfield and Pops Staples. Simply put: one of the finest soul guitar albums of the 1970's, exquisitely rare in its original form and in near mint condition.. The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has 2-3 small peel-off marks (the marks are on the promo timing strip, NOT on the cover itself!), probably from the careless removal of the price sticker. (less than 1 square inch in size)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 (front side) and 5 (back side)

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No yellowing from aging

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.
