Description

HERE IS EVIDENCE that bandleader JAN GARBER once led a romping, stomping red-hot band:  "SINCE MY BEST GAL TURNED ME DOWN" backed with "I WISH I COULD SHIMMY LIKE MY SISTER KATE."

This was in 1928, when every band was trending hot. Garber's band took the bull market by the horns, turning in wonderful performances such as what you hear on this record, and others as well.

"Best Gal" has a spirited vocal by HARRY GOLDFIELD (cornet), who went on to sit next to Bix Beiderbecke in Paul Whiteman's brass section.  Speaking of Bix, this "Gal" is a worthy alternative to his own version, one of the hats-off hottest records of the whole decade.

This original 1928 Columbia 1306-D is in beat VV- condition. For twenty years, it was my copy, and even in its present tattered shape, was on heavy rotation and livened up many a party!

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
