Description
VG COPY OF Ms. THARPE'S SECOND UK RELEASE.
Stripped entirely of any studio backing musicians or orchestral varnish, both sides feature Rosetta completely solo, anchored solely by her powerful vocal shouting and her revolutionary acoustic guitar style. On Side A (I Looked Down The Line), Tharpe delivers a masterclass in syncopated rhythm, using her guitar to lay down a driving, locomotive-like cadence that directly laid the bedrock for post-war rockabilly and country-blues instrumentation. Side B features her brilliant, sharp-witted take on the traditional spiritual God Don't Like It, a driving rhythmic sermon that showcases her unparalleled ability to blend strict sacred lyrics with the irresistible, danceable swing of secular street-corner blues. Finding clean, un-flogged vintage UK Brunswick pressings of these fragile 1939 matrices entirely free of heavy steel-needle gray tracking wear, deep scratches, or rim chips is an extraordinary rarity.
