Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only very light and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. Bought from new by one lady owner and without doubt, hardly even played or handled. This is a stunning first issue example.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 127 grams. A good solid weight.

Rarity: Moderate in theory, but I have found UK pressings of this more elusive, many seen are German. Also I have not seen a better example since I bought a copy back in 1972.

Brief Info: From the beginnings of Ambrose Slade, they dropped the Ambrose and became just Slade and never looked back. Popular with the teenagers of the early 70s and this one sold well and actually topped the UK charts. Not so easy to find clean copies however, most were not treated too well and many played into submission on basic record players. Always liked this album, actually bought a copy on issue while still at school myself. This copy is a beauty with a supreme cover and record - hardly played and with incredibly powerful sound. In my opinion, their best album ever and not a ‘IT’S CHRISTMAS’ to be heard.

Cover Grade and Format: MINT(-): a single, fully laminated format. Printed and made in England by MacNeill. This includes it’s original inner sleeve that is date-coded 1072 proving this was bought right on release.

Lamination – Front & Back: Fresh, clear and VERY shiny and devoid of any friction rubs, dulling or lifting. This truly does remind of new and looks fantastic. The lady owner had stored this within a record case and I doubt if it has seen light-=of-day for decades. The only reason it is not graded full Mint is for a few small and fine hairline surface creases on the spine that few will ever avoid. Just one very mild half moon away from the sides that hardly shows with normal viewing. This cover looks amazing and one for the very discerning collector – I can hardly believe this is over 40 years old.

Top Edge: As made and ultra smooth to the fingertip.

Bottom Edge: Same again.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, razor sharp with no wear, thickening or burring, it is guaranteed untrimme. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Practically as made again: solid, straight, uncompressed and square. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate.

Corners: All four in supreme condition with barely any traces of wear – I would say again, all as made.

Cover Summary: A fantastic all-round example of this famous 70’s glam cover, almost as famous as that incredible Dave Hill haircut and those Noddy Holder sideburns. This one that will prove very difficult to find better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): polylined and date coded 1072, this in super shape being clean and barely creased with no edge splits. Like the rest of this set, this has hardly aged at all.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-): a superb visual copy with any surface traces minuscule. Very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence and hardly run-in in vinyl terms. Visually a very impressive record that should please most-all collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This superb record plays up to it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will match, let alone outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled within a non-smoking environment. These popular early 70s records are seldom seen this clean and unused these days. Most played a multitude of times on very basic, heavy tracking record players and now offering very poor sound – this one is on the other side of the scale. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, this is Slade at their very best, loud and full-on. Noddy sure could belt out a tune and few did it better in the glam-rock genre. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
