Few Words About “Decade of Aggression”

Decade of Aggression  is a double live album by Slayer and was released in 1991 through Def American Records (later renamed to American Recordings). Many of the band's fans view this album as the ultimate testament to Slayer's precise musicianship, with very little difference between the live and studio versions of the songs. The album reached #55 in the Billboard Top 200.

It is a point of pride with Slayer that they did not add studio overdubs or otherwise make any attempts to "repair" the recording, unlike many other "live" albums of the time. This is evident in "War Ensemble" and "Angel Of Death" during which Dave Lombardo obviously struggles to keep up during certain sections. A video was produced of "Raining Blood" and "Black Magic" played back to back, although the information on screen at the first and end of the video just reads "Raining Blood." This was the last full-length release with Lombardo on drums until 2004's Still Reigning DVD.

Lombardo left Slayer for the second time in May of 1992, due to conflicts with other band members and his desire to bring his wife on tour. The band listened to hundreds of demo tapes to recruit a new drummer, until King's guitar technician, John Tempesta recommended the band to try out Testament drummer Paul Bostaph.Although Slayer members were hesitant about Bostaph's ability to fit into the Slayer momentum, Lombardo's style being "over the top" while Forbidden more melodic, he was recruited as the new Slayer drummer. Bostaph was trailed with nine songs, making one error on "Angel of Death". Prior to the "big double bass part" there's a lead section, which Bostaph could not understand, as he had to learn from live records recorded with Lombardo.Bostaph could not tell how many revolutions the guitar riff goes before the bass sequence; the band members told him there was eight, "perfecting" the song after.
