You are bidding for a 1st PRESS LILAC LABEL SMALL FACES, CLASSIC 'OGDENS' NUT GONE FLAKE'
I've had this from it's day of release in May 1968, just the cover alone is fantastic let alone the record itself. It comes with it's original inner polythene sleeve with the rounded end, so that the it was a snug fit into the die cut cover.
Track List - Side 1 - Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake, Afterglow, Long Agos and Worlds Apart, Rene, Song of a Baker, Lazy Sunday.
Side 2 - Happiness Stan, Rollin' Over, The Hungry Intruder, The Journey, Mad John, Happydaystoytown.
Label/Format - Immediate - FIRST PRESS PALE LILAC, this colour label was soon replaced with the usual pink label in subsequent pressings. Both sides are lovely and clean with just a few minor spindle marks. Side 1 does not have the usual information about copyright details etc around the edge, but just the simple message 'For amazing results this record should be played at full volume' Side two carries the copyright detail.
Cover - VG - All still brilliantly coloured and vibrant, no selotape or marks. One join has parted which is the one between Steve Marriot and Ronnie 'Plonk' Lane. The potential for damage to these covers was very high as it was one of the most delicate and fragile ever made. It also proved costly to manufacture and transport, so it was changed to a usual gatefold sleeve later on. The original inner polythene sleeve has one small tear on the rounded end at about 1 inch long. This is 44 years old and has really stood the test of time considering it's fragility.
Matrix details; Side 1 - IMSP 012 = 1Y with a '1' @ 9.o'c and a 'O' @ 3.o'c. (I think the 'O' @ 3'o'c stands for Obverse, as in a coins head side.)
Side 2 - IMSP 012 = 2Y with a '1' @ 9. o'c and an 'R' at 3. o'c (R for reverse) Second issues had an additional -2/-2 after the 'Y'
I try to grade my records as accurately as possible and obviously want to give 100% satisfaction to my buyers. I have played and listened to this album on a ION Profile deck whilst converting it to Itunes. I have also listed to it via my Bose Lifestyle system.
I have graded using the Record Collector grading system as follows:
Mint: the record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.
Excellent: the record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging may have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very good: the record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks an occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and contents without any major defects is acceptable.
Good: the record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffed edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.
The LP sits nice and flat on the turntable with no warping.Side 1 - VG+ - there are no marks or rubs and the vinyl is still lovely and shiny. I've graded it as VG+ and there is some 'crackling' on the lead in to the album prior to track one, 'Nut Gone Flake' However this stops once the music starts and from there on it is brilliant.
Side 2 - VG - There is a scratch across track one, and as per side one some crackling on the lead in to that track, it does cause ticks BUT ONLY where Stanley Unwin introduces with the words; "Are you sitty comftibold two square on your botty, then I'll begin" the ticks then stop just before the music starts, it therefore does not affect the music listening pleasure at all. It really is great to listen to. Vinyl still nice and shiny. I've graded this side as a VG, due to the ticks on the intro, however there are none following that and the music tracks really are VG+
Due to my grading above, I don't believe that this is a copy for purist, but I cannot stress enough how good this sounds, or how good the cover is.
