SMALL FACES OGDEN'S NUT GONE FLAKE LP 1968 IMMEDIATE IMLP 012 1st PRESS Mono LILAC LABEL

This is an original UK IMMEDIATE RECORDS first-pressing issue of this very rare psych-pop classic, by the Small Faces, one of the greatest ever UK bands.  

Catalogue No. IMLP 012 - MONO version with pale lilac labels. The record is stamped with 1L/2L matrices in the run-out grooves, thus confirming its authenticity.

The five-fold 12" round sleeve is intact and in very clean condition - some slight handling wear on edges, but very little discoloration of  its unique artwork . Please note that the main outer fold of the sleeve has been carefully repaired with clear tape, because it was almost detached from the other four fold-out sections. It's now quite strong and the join is well-aligned and not a quick bodge.

I've put plenty of photos of the record, its original clear PVC (fold-over, semi-circular) inner sleeve and all sections of the magnificent outer sleeve onto this listing - most in collage format so that I can include a couple of dozen images to show as much detail as possible.

Any questions about record or sleeve are welcome; I don't expect anyone to accept sketchy info or cunningly-smudged photos if they intend to invest in this very collectable album. Don’t trust any seller that can’t be bothered to show good pictures or write clear details about an item. The photos here are of the actual item - any seller pinching these photos is lazy & dishonest, and not willing to show you the other actual item that's on their own listing. 

Please take a few minutes to study all the detail of the generally excellent sleeve. It's now almost impossible to find a VG+ example of this album, and I'm only selling it because I already have another early pressing of the same LP.

The LP itself is in VG condition, with good lustre, bearing some superficial surface marking. The labels are clean and unmarked, with minimal spidering around the spindle hole.

It plays well throughout on both sides, with strong sound and some light surface noise between tracks and on run-outs. The spoken story sections by Prof.Stanley Unwin on side 2 sound very good with minimal crackle.

The record's circular poly-plastic inner sleeve has some creasing and slight tear-stretching at its fold-over edges, but is perfectly serviceable, adding complete authenticity to this collector's item.

You'll probably know that very few of these clear inner sleeves have survived a half-century of use, but this LP & its sleeve have been well looked after. 

It’s probably graded conservatively as VG/VG, noting the minor sleeve repair and the fact that the LP has been well played but carefully kept for 50 years now. Mint original copies may be priced at 3x this starting price or much more, but as this is an auction listing, I’m leaving some room for sensible bidding.   

Please note identification points for first-press sleeve and the later issues:

1: The orange / ochre print colours were more prominent on early pressings. The printer’s credit on the plain white inner fold also reads 'Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse' Ltd'.

2: The sleeve colour contrasts differ from first-issue sleeves on later issue versions, which also have a different printer credit, identified only as'Garrodprint'. The 'Design' application text on the rear outer sleeve that is shown on this early pressing is also absent on later issue LPs.

The music speaks for itself - it's one of the great albums of the late 1960s, the record on which the Small Faces reached their career zenith. Stevie, Ronnie, Kenney and Ian had a unique chemistry and an instantly recognisable sound. The band had great vocal support from the gorgeous P.P Arnold  too, so their rock/psych-pop/soul power was unmatched.  

The Small Faces belong in that hallowed pantheon of legendary British bands that also includes The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, The Yardbirds & The Kinks; Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake is clearly of its time, and somehow also timeless!
