Description

Here is another lovely offering from a wonderful well cared for collection of original '60s/'70s rock, prog and psych LPs I have acquired. This is an original UK mono copy of Small Faces by Small Faces on original unboxed red Decca (LK 4790) - a terrific album which influenced all who followed in their footsteps, including Led Zeppelin, David Bowie et al. This is a remarkable example of a cracking album that is normally found trashed, torn and partied to death. Just look at my pictures to see how treasured this particular copy has been over the last 40-odd years.

The original front-laminated single sleeve manufactured by James Upton Ltd remains shiny and bright, retaining all its original colour and clear gloss. The edges are straight and true, the opening edge is strong and unfeathered, and the spinal text is all perfectly readable. The vulnerable unlaminated largely white rear sleeve, so often found soiled, grubby, torn, trashed, ripped and written upon, is rarely found in such clean condition as this. This is really how it is .. nothing has been rubbed out, touched up or tampered with (I do not mess about with sleeves or vinyl in any way!) To be hyper-critical (which you will notice I generally am, if you have seen any of my other appraisals) there is just a little hardly noticeable browning towards the top and bottom edges of the rear sleeve but in truth the whiteness of this example is a real rarity since it remains as white as the day it left the factory 40-odd years ago! The only other thing to mention is the slight impression of a couple of creases showing up on the top front only, possibly as a result of storage (obviously nothing to do with abuse or carelessness as there is no sign of corresponding creasing on the rear). In summary therefore this is a lovely desirable glossy/clean front-laminated sleeve which grades EX- quite comfortably.

The thick slab of original unboxed red Decca vinyl has also been well cared for. The lovely unblemished red labels show some evidence of spindle activity, indicating only moderate use over the years, while both sides of the vinyl show up very few marks indeed, even when examined closely under harsh halogen lighting. Both disc and cover have clearly been treasured over the years. The record also plays as well as it looks ... with brightness and great clarity. It is one of the truly great debut albums of the 1960s. This unboxed red Decca mono disc easily grades VG+.

Good luck if you are bidding (and if you are bidding from outside of the UK please contact me to request postage costs etc).

Please note: early payment required at end of auction.

Also please check out my other items on sale, including a rare BLUE TEXT first pressing of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Electric Ladyland, and other original '60s Traffic and Hendrix albums.
