OBSCURE BUT super fucntional early to late sixties American blues rock band clearly influenced by the British blues boom. The sound is rough and raw, kinda like Creedence Clearwater Revival jamming with, say, the Blues Image. Mostly covers of obscure blues tracks written by the likes of Willie Dixon, Ike Turner and Chester Burnett.
Side one concentrates primarilly on the heavy garage psych angle but flip the record over and the blues rock really kicks in peaking with the 13 minute long title track 'Smokestack Lightnin' which is a virtual hommage to Cream's signature blues workout 'Spoonful' complete with inexhaustible guitar and, beleive it or not, a drum solo!
Produced by Bones Howe, Smokestack Lightnin' faded from obscurity into, er, even more obscurity. None of the members as far as I'm aware resurfaced in other bands.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Beautiful unplayed condition. No spindle marks and no signs or use whatsoever. Grades as shop fresh MINT!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of use. Sharp corners - no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Super stiff, uncrushed spine. Tiny promo hole bottom left. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 36 years after release. Grades as shop fresh MINT-!
