  SOFT MACHINE, THIRD, UK CBS 2 x LPs, 1970, EX VINYL Soft Machine – Third

Soft Machine were an English rock band from Canterbury, named after the book The Soft Machine by William S. Burroughs. They were one of the central bands in the so-called “Canterbury scene”, and helped pioneer the progressive rock genre. Third is a 1970 double album, with each side of the original vinyl consisting of a single long composition. Its music explores the emerging jazz fusion of the type present on Miles Davis ’ Bitches Brew, which was released in the same month.
 Side One: Facelift.
Side Two: Slightly All The Time.
Side Three: Moon In June.
Side Four: Out-Bloody-Rageous.
The album is on CBS Records, S 64079. Matrix side one: S-66245-A1 (stamped). Matrix side two: S-66246-B1 (stamped). Matrix side three: S 66246 C2 (stamped). Matrix side four: S 66246 D2 (stamped).
Released in 1970. UK pressing. Stereo.
Condition: (as Record Collector's grading system. If I see a mark it will be mentioned however light/small, including from the usual very light paper scuffs/marks - usually caused by record being removed from the inner sleeve, which appear on nearly all old records and which are only visible under strong light)
Vinyl side 1: excellent (has a few light superficial surface marks that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Vinyl side 2: excellent (has a few light superficial surface marks that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Vinyl side 3: excellent (has a few light superficial surface marks that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Vinyl side 4: excellent (has a few light superficial surface marks that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Cover (glossy outer, matt inner, gatefold): very good (some edge, corner and spine wear, surface tear on front where sticker has been removed - see photos).
The record plays like new with no jumps, skips or clicks and minimal crackle.
I have tried to give my honest opinion as to the condition. I will give a complete refund to the buyer if they are not happy with the record.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM:
MINT: I very rarely use the mint grade. Only records that are still sealed or records that even under the strongest of lights are completely unmarked. Also covers that are unmarked/uncreased in any way and still look brand new.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
