Né en 1978 des cendres d'obscurs groupes rémois (Woman Bleed, Antéchrist, Hardfuckers,... ), Soggy se compose alors de Beb (chant), Eric Dars (guitare) et Olivier Hennegrave (batterie), puis incorpore dans ses rangs François Tailleur (basse). Après s'être fait la main sur des morceaux d'Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, MC5 et des Stooges, le groupe compose rapidement son propre répertoire et développe un son au croisement du Hard et du Punk Rock Stoogien, style qu'ils rebaptiseront « Hard Wave » par dérision pour les étiquettes Hard Rock ou New Wave (!) dont ils sont affublés. Ce mélange détonnant restera leur marque de fabrique jusqu'à la fin. Le groupe répète assidûment, s'enregistre à plusieurs reprises (en studio comme en répet), s'entoure d'un staff technique considérable, tourne et retourne les MJC de Champagne-Ardenne, défoncera aussi le Gibus, le Golf Drouot, et ira faire parler la poudre jusqu'en Allemagne, Belgique, Hollande et Suisse. Leur professionnalisme et leur débauche d'énergie légendaire sur scène leur permet de décrocher un article dans Best en octobre 1980, puis de monter à Paris en avril 1981 afin d'enregistrer les morceaux « Waiting for the war » et « 47 chromosomes » au studio Florida.
Fin mai marque la consécration du groupe avec la sortie de ces deux titres sur un 45t auto-produit qui atteint la 5ème place au classement des ventes du plus gros disquaire de la région rémoise, et avec le passage sur FR3 Reims du clip « Waiting for the war ». Contacté par plusieurs maisons de disques pour l'enregistrement d'un album, mais refusant de chanter en français, le groupe ne sera jamais signé. Après plus d'une centaine de concerts au compteur, le groupe se sépare en juillet 1982 alors qu'il devait assurer la première partie de la tournée européenne de Judas Priest...

Founded in 1978 on the ashes of obscure rock bands from Reims (Woman Bleed, Antechrist, Hardfuckers, …), the members of Soggy include Beb (vocals), Eric Dars (guitar) and Olivier Hennegrave (drums), plus François Tailleur (bass) completing the line-up a tad later. Starting with covers of Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, MC5, and the Stooges, the band quickly wrote its own material and developed a unique style mixing Hard Rock and Punk Rock in a Stooges vein self labeled "Hard Wave" to make fun of journalists who had labeled them "Hard Rock" and even "New Wave". The band rehearsed regularly, recorded its own tracks on many occasions (while rehearsing and in the studio). They hired a huge technical staff, organized their own tours in the Champagne-Ardenne region, but also ventured to Paris (Gibus, Golf Drouot), and even Germany, Belgium, Holland and Switzerland. The band professionalism along with their legendary burst of energy on stage eventually gained media coverage in Best (october 1980) and with this came the opportunity to record the tracks « Waiting for the war » and « 47 chromosomes » in Paris (Florida studio) in April 1981.
With the release of a self produced single (reaching the 5th highest sale in their regions biggest record shop) and with a video of "Waiting for the war" shot for the TV channel FR3 Reims, the end of May that year signifies the highpoint in the band’s career. Approached by several major record labels for the release of a whole album, but when asked to sing in French (an offer they will systematically turn down), the band was destined to remain unsigned.
