Description
"SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME" is not only a classic song among classic songs, it is still, in 2019, the "Go To" melody that seemingly is hard-wired into the DNA of EVERY aspiring girl singer who dares to raise her voice in song. I should know, as a pianist who routinely accompanies them!
BUT here is the premiere recording, from 1926, by the woman for whom George and Ira Gershwin wrote it, and who first sang it in their musical show, "OH, KAY!" - the exceedingly charming young GERTRUDE LAWRENCE. She gives a completely winning performance, as she does on the flip side, also by the Gershwin Bros., "DO-DO-DO."
