In true late Sixties fashion,Someones Band came together from an advert in Melody Maker and the line up of Cecil Jones (Vocals),Melvin Buckley (Guitar),John Coxen (Guitar), Terry Powney (Bass) and Woody Martin (Drums) were given a chance to record following a demo for Decca Records,who placed them on Deram.Just this one album was recorded,apparently in just a one night session...and then obscurity beckoned.
Perhaps summed up in the liner notes on the album

The rarest of all the Deram records. It sold in minute quantities and was soon deleted. This is a first pressing with the laminated sleeve. It has the Robert Stace printing credit. The sleeve is in well used condition. Someone has applied tape to the top and bottom of the rear of the sleeve, Due to its age, over 48 years old, this has started to peel away but I will leave it for the new owner to deal with. The seams will need to be re-glued There is also some mild creasing that does not show up in the photographs.(see photos).
The inner sleeve is the correct undated Decca solid blue sleeve. Originally Deram albums had a peep hole top right on the reverse and a mono record was placed in a red sleeve and stereo records were placed in a blue block sleeve. This was done so that Deram didn't have to print separate sleeves for mono and stereo. It just said red mono blue stereo on the rear. So by looking at the reverse of the sleeve you could tell which was which.
By 1970 this practice was stopped as no mono records were being released anymore so the peep hole was not needed and just disappeared and Deram just used the Decca blue sleeve we have here.
Deram was a subsidiary of Decca and Decca matrix numbers were applied to Deram Pressings.
Decca used a code system of stamper identification based on the word BUCKINGHAM. First pressing used the letter B perhaps a couple of hundred. Then the Letter U was used then the letter C and so on.
This disc had FIRST PRESS Matrix numbers XZAL-9879-P-2W and FIRST PRESS STAMPERS 1 B on side 1 and XZAL-9880-P-2W and FIRST PRESS STAMPERS 1 B on side 2,
So there is absolutely no doubt that this is an original first press of this mega rare prog monster.
Now for the record itself. To say it has been well used is putting it mildly.
First the good news. It plays with no loud pops and it does not repeat or jump. I have played it a few times and am still getting dust on my needle. A thorough clean is recommended,
Now the bad news. The surface has many many hairlines/scuffs that leave constant crackle on playback. Side 2 is the worst for this though the final track has none and plays as EX+. Side 1 is much better though I would grade as around VG/VG+ I didn't find it too distracting but there will be people who might object to this. It does not overpower the sound in my opinion in not only what is a rare record but I found it surprisingly listenable with none of those pretentious lyrics often hear from some of the bigger bands of the time.
And I am amazed the band didn't get a second chance. This is there only release purely based on pathetically few sales. .
So here we have a first press front only laminated sleeve, first press inner sleeve and first press P-2W P-2W matrix marks and 1 B 1B Mother Stampers on Deram's rarest release.
The disc will not change into anything other than described!
