Sonic Youth made their first moves toward traditional rock with EVOL, a stunningly fluent mixture of avant-garde instrumentation and subversions of rock & roll.
The band benefits greatly from the addition of structure, which gives its aural experiments a firm grounding, but the addition of drummer Steve Shelley is essential to the group's new, dangerous edge.
With the added propulsion, the fearless rush of "Expressway to Yr Skull" (aka "Madonna, Sean and Me" or "The Crucifixion of Sean Penn" - differing titles on the label, sleeve and inner) and the near-pop of "Green Light" are undeniably powerful as are the eerie textures of "Shadow of a Doubt."

LABELS: MINT-
Clean, unmarked labels with barely any signs of play
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT+
Apart from some soft brush marks from the inner and some in-vinyl pressing blemishes - all audibly harmless - both surfaces are clean
VINYL Audio: MINT-
Wonderful sound quality - crystal clear and sharp as a bell and my play-check at loud volume found practically nothing to fault - just one pop on the run-in to Side One (before the music starts) otherwise, flawless
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Clean and unmarked with very little edge or spine wear to speak of - sharp and square - fine example
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Again, very nice condition - a couple of tiny marks and a little record impression but no seam splits
