SONNY CLARK “Sonny’s Crib” Blue Note 1576, DG, “P”, “RVG”, Original Mono Vinyl
This is the original 1958, mono, “Van Gelder”-stamped, Deep Groove, “P”-pressing of SONNY CLARK’s “Sonny’s Crib” on the 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 1576. Musicians include Sonny Clark, Donald Byrd, Curtis Fuller, John Coltrane, Paul Chambers, and Art Taylor.
VINYL is very good condition, handful of feelable scratches. Consistent low level surface noise and briefly sounding ticks, throughout. But as will all Blue Note 1500 series Mono pressings, the music is clear as a bell, rich, forceful and VERY dynamic. Music signal is rich, clear, full of tone and very dynamic. No skips. No locked grooves. No distortion (except Side 1, #3, minor distortion). The “47 West 63rd NYC labels” (no “R” under “Note”) are in excellent condition with minimal spindle wear.
Front LAMINATED COVER is in very good condition; bottom seam shows beginning of split. Spine is in very good, nearly perfect shape, however, see photos. The “47 West 63rd St., New York 23” back jacket is in very good condition, minor stain lower right corner and some aging, no ringwear. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers.
