SONNY ROLLINS - VOL. 2

A truly impressive condition copy of this 1962 US jazz rarity with wonderful sound quality throughout

Year/Label : 1959 US BLUE NOTE Label number : BLP 1558 Matrix numbers :  BN-LP-1558-A-2, BN-LP-1558-B-2 (with "RVG" stamped and Plastylite "P" or "ear" etched on each run-off, and "9M" etched on side 1 run-off)
Excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - weighty and completely flat, and displaying a beautiful jet black sheen - in normal daylight both sides of the vinyl come across as completely unmarked and it is only with very close scrutiny under a bright light that just a couple of very small, purely superficial and extremely wispy paper scuff lines can be identified on each side (you will need to look very hard to spot them), but nothing here to impinge upon the truly wonderful sound quality and I have no reservation whatsoever in grading the condition of this vinyl as "excellent plus". Note the early press stamped "RVG" and etched Plastylite "P" or "ear" on each of the run-off's, and etched "9M on the side 1 run-off - each indicators of a very early pressing.   Excellent plus (EX+) condition labels : again, hard to fault - if you look very hard you may just be able to make out one or two small and extremely faint spindle trails next to the centre hole on each label, otherwise perfect - amazing! Clearly this is a record that has been only very sparingly played.  Note the early press "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC 47 WEST 63rd NYC" label text and of course the circular deep groove on each label, again synonymous with very early US pressings.  Very good plus (VG+) condition original thick cardboard outer sleeve : firm edges with intermittent light scuff marks on each of the top and bottom edges, a rigid spine with some intermittent mild scuff marks more continuously so on the top half of the spine (see photo), nicely defined right angled corners with a little mild rubbing on each, firm opening edges with no fraying, and there is a 1-3cm vertical strip towards the top right corner coming half-way down the sleeve next to the opening edge where the laminate has peeled away - not especially obvious at all but a blemish nonetheless. There is no unwanted writing or cardboard creasing, and all colours, art work, photos and text remain crisp and clear. The only other blemishes (each minor) are a little square area of browning/age discolouration in each of the corners on the reverse side, and just a few barely noticeable handling/storage small surface marks. Take a good look at my photos where I have tried to show a detailed and honest appraisal of the condition of this iconic sleeve - hard to believe that this copy is 67 years of age...it remains impressive and highly presentable!  Truly excellent plus (EX+) mono audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, distortion, interference or background crackle and complete silence during the dead wax run-in's and run-off's. Upon playback I thought I detected just a few (3 or 4) very low level and barely discernible random clicks - if so then the cause can only be a speck or two of dust caught in the grooves through decades of upright stiorage since the vinyl does not have even a single wispy hairline! Wonderful tone and clarity with crystal clear MONO sound quality throughout and each and every track remaining a great listen, and little wonder with these jazz legends at the top of their game : Jay Jay Johnson (trombone), Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Art Blakey (drums). Comes with new all-white poly-lined inner sleeve.     A truly impressive copy of this 1959 US mono repress jazz rarity with the superb sound quality being a true standout.
POSTAGE COSTS :

For the UK £3.38 using Royal Mail tracked 48 (ebay's "simple delivery");

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits.
