SOUL PURPOSE -- Hooked On Him -- hard to find, original early-1970's (?) U.S. album. Very good and apparently unknown Private Press Xian Rock LP by this obscure Southern California group with terrific female-male vocal harmonies and strong group originals (mostly by Steve Schmidt) with an early 70's Westcoast vibe inc. "Questions & Answers," "Left On Shore" and "Give All The Love." High point is likely driving, uptempo Rock title track "Hooked On Him" which halfway through goes into a totally psycho drum solo that lasts the rest of the song. The other half of the LP features covers of Andrae Crouch & Ralph Carmichael songs with groovy, Free Design-style vocals -- tasty enough but it's the group originals that really put this over the top. Would definitely appeal to fans of other early 1970's Private Press Xian Rock LP's like Newborn - The Road of Life and The Celebration. A very hard record to come by -- only rarely comes up for sale. See photos for track list. Cover: VG+, ring wear and wear at corners, tiny 1/4" split upper right, light waffling in surface on back cover upper right. Record: VG-/VG, light surface marks and surface wear, slightly heavier on B-side, plays well, on Gospel Jubilee private label, U.S. press.
