The Capitol Record - A Souvenir Of The Capitol Tower 7" PROMO EP on Capitol (no catalog number is listed on the cover, spine or record labels. The matrix #'s are 45-PRO-254-D1/45-PRO-255-D1. This EP celebrates the early history of Capitol and features snippets of a nice selection of their artists, from Frank Sinatra (with a portion of the first ever recording at Capitol Tower Recording Studio conducted by Sinatra, as well as Love & Marriage, and the back cover features Frank conducting a recording session) to Bozo The Clown and Bugs Bunny and friends to Dean Martin and Jackie Gleason. The narrator is George Fenneman, who is best known as Groucho Marx' sidekick/announcer on You Bet Your Life. I cut together about 7-minutes from both sides of this EP into the clip below from the nearly 13-minutes in total on this EP. The question is, how many of these were produced, and how many actually survive in this condition today??!!
PLEASE NOTE: I have well over 200 45's up for auction this week, which came from an amazing collection of vintage Capitol, Liberty, and some smaller labels that are a mix of commercial and PROMO copies from the mid-1950’s including rock, pop, rockabilly, doo wop and R&B. It appears that this collection came from someone who worked in the industry during the mid-50’s, and with the overall condition of these 45’s, it appears they may have been played a few times and just stored away. There may be some grease pencil markings in the dead wax, which may be quality control notations. With this said, please make sure you check them all out! If you win multiples, I'll combine them into one package to save you $$$ on S/H!!!
The labels on this 45 state FOR PROMOTIONAL USE!!! The vinyl on this 45 is in excellent condition! There's a slight edge warp, which doesn't effect the play or the sound. Now I don't know what has happened to the labels on this EP over the last 50+ years, but it appears that something has aged them over the years. I can't tell whether it's from the glue used or that they weren't glossed properly, but the possibly originally white labels have turned a speckled gray, which does make the fine print hard to read. The picture cover is in overall excellent condition with sharp corners and edges, but does have a sharp 2" seam split at the top right corner where there's a a slight amount of a ding/wear and slight aging to the white of the back cover. This is a really RARE & COOL Capitol Records collectible, make sure you bid today!!!
