SPIKE JONES Lot: 2 GLASS TRANSCRIPTION ACETATES (1944) Constipated Blues + BOOK

This lot consists of the following items:

BOOK: An Illustrated Guide to the Recordings of Spike Jones, by Scott C. Corbett, 1989. 105 pages. Like new. Includes an EvaTone soundsheet (unplayed).

TRANSCRIPTION RECORDINGS: Two 10-inch 78rpm glass acetates (when glass was used due to the metal shortage in World War II).  The acetates are from Central States Broadcasting System Transcription Dept., Omaha, Nebraska, according to the labels (the titles are printed on one side of the labels, logos on the other side), and may have been made from radio broadcasts, or at a radio station. (The label has three stations mentioned: KFAN, KOIL and KFOR.) The lacquer is flaking off and is liable to further disintegrate if you try to play these on a turntable, so these acetates should be considered only as physical artifacts. Play at your own risk! Without being able to hear them I cannot compare them with the versions released as commercial 78s on Bluebird/RCA Victor: Jones recorded Der Fuehrer’s Face in 1942, but Liebestraum only in 1945 {AFTER the date on this acetate], and I cannot find Constipated Blues or Dark Eyes in the Jones discographies I have seen.

Note: Deeis Duttweiler was an audio engineer from Atchison, Kansas, who was employed by KOIL Radio in Omaha in the 1940s.

78s will be packed between cardboard sheets surrounded by packing material in boxes that are 12 x 12 x 4 inches or larger.
