SPIRITSpirit
1968 UK CBS RECORDS (S 63278) FIRST *STEREO* PRESSING OF SPIRIT'S EPONYMOUS DEBUT
MATRIX: SBPG 63278 A2 / SBPG 63278 B1
HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL FRONT LAMINATED *MONO* SLEEVE WITH *STEREO* STICKER “Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London W11. Patent Pending”
COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL POLY-LINED "FOREIGN PATENTS PENDING" INNER SLEEVE
Spirit's debut unveiled a band that seemed determine to out do everybody else on the California psychedelic scene, with its melange of rock, jazz, blues, folk-rock, and even a bit of classical and Indian music. Teenaged Randy California immediately established a signature sound with his humming, sustain-heavy tone; middle-aged drummer Ed Cassidy gave the group unusual versatility; and the songs tackled unusual lyrical themes, like "Fresh Garbage" and "Mechanical World." An extremely impressive debut with a beautiful soundscape
Side 1:
Fresh-Garbage
Uncle Jack
Mechanical World
Taurus
Girl In Your Eye
Straight Arrow
Side 2:
Topanga Windows
Gramophone Man
Water Woman
The Great Canyon Fire In General
Elijah
LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean, fresh and unmarked labels which show very little sign of use
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both surfaces are clean and unmarked
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT / EXCELLENT
Plays beautifully throughout with nothing but an occasional one-off little tick but noting at all really and nothing else of note on Side 1 and just a couple of ticks on "Water Woman" on Side 2.
All-in-all a really nice original copy of outstanding West Coast Psychedelia.
Very highly recommended indeed
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
The cover is also clean and unmarked with just a little rub on the laminate (but still shiny) and the edges and spine show very little wear
