Super rare Swedish only hard-bop Jazz classic From the cream of the 60's Swedish Jazz musicians!! One of the top Jazz Rarities! This doesn't turn up too often so don't miss this opportunity!! Incredibly evocative work from this hip Swedish group -- a combo with a sound that draws on American roots, but takes them in a whole new direction! Pianist Sataffan Abeleen has a very far-reaching vision here -- expressed brilliantly on the title suite "Persepolis", a side-long track that stretches out with some really bold themes -- and which features some wonderful solo moments from Lasse Farnlof on cornet and Bjorn Netz on tenor. Abeleen's piano has a warmly comping feel at many moments -- a sound that's halfway between soul jazz and modal jazz -- and which really sets up some great rhythms for the passages in the suite. Side two features three shorter tracks -- "Gamla Tider", "Atarax", and "Paronet I Montecello" -- all great too, and played with a similar vibe that reminds us of the best mix of modernism and soul jazz you'd find on Blue Note in the early 60s!
