Description
This is a fine original stereo U.S. pressing copy of the third LP by the Standells, released in 1966. One of the most popular "punk" groups from the 1960s, the Standells had pedigree: group leader Larry Tamblyn was the brother of stage and screen star Russ Tamblyn (West Side Story), while drummer and lead singer Dick Dodd had been a Mouseketeer. Following up on the success of their epochal hit "Dirty Water," the group scored two near-misses with the singles that together comprise the title of this LP (though "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" originally appeared on the Dirty Water LP). The record is as consistent as its predecessor: in addition to the title tracks, it features several solid commercial punk songs ("Black Hearted Woman," "Mr. Nobody," "Mainline," credible covers of "Paint It Black" and "My Little Red Book") along with the album closer "Have You Ever Spent the Night in Jail?," composed by producer Ed Cobb based on personal experience, which is certainly punk in spirit if not in sound. The only clunker is the love song "Mi Hai Fatto Innamorare," written and sung by guitarist Tony Valentino (the Italian in the group), which at a stretch might be tagged spaghetti punk. The jacket has light sticker damage and residue on the front cover (see photo), and is otherwise close to pristine (EX+). The disc is clean with some light scuffing, and plays with some light surface noise (which is a bit heavier on side 2) -- EX(+).
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
