'Hello'

Verigo, UK, 1973

6360 098

QUO FANS are united in their appreciation of this fabulous album - most agreeing that it is unquestionably the pinnacle of their early seventies three man guitar army blitzkreig. 'Piledriver' the previous album set them up big time for this album and they didn't dissapoint. Amazingly the songs got stronger, the guitars louder and the rhythm section heavier.

Of course it was the lead track that put it over the edge. 'Caroline' was a bonafide hit single and remains one of the bands most important and memorable tracks built on a hugely effective riff and Francis Rossi's simple lead guitar motif. I still get the same goosebumps when I hear it today.

Everytrack is a winner from the short sharp jab of 'Blue Eyed Lady', the country tinged 'Claudie', the delicate 'And It's Better Now', the menacing 'Softer Ride' and two huge blockbusters in 'Roll Over Lay Down' and 'Forty Five Hundred Times'. The former is built like a brick poop house, all muscles and chug-chug guitar with lyrics that suggest one thing but actually mean something entirely different. The latter is a Quo work horse - a twenty minute jam of epic proportions with enough lead guitar to shame Ted Nugent. It ebbs and flows like a massive larva spill, setting fire to everything in its path and crushing the living daylights out of anyone foolish enough to question such power and passion.

If you've never heard this record you need to take stock of your life and get a few things straight. Bidding on this auction might make amends.

This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
