This album is from Status Quo the British rock band formed in London in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster. After a number of name and line-up changes, which included the introduction of John Coughlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK and a career total of 25 UK top ten albums, extending all the way up to 2019. In 2012, they were announced as the tenth best-selling group of all time on the UK Singles Chart with 7.2 million singles sales in their homeland alone. As of 2015, they were one of only 50 artists to have achieved more than 500 total weeks on the UK album charts. With their various records for both single and album releases, Status Quo are one of the most successful and bestselling bands of all time, especially in their home country and have sold approximately 108-118 million records worldwide.
Whatever You Want is their twelfth studio album. Recording began in December 1978 in the Netherlands, with the final mixes being completed in London in March 1979. The album was released on 12 October 1979 and entered the chart on 20 October 1979, reaching as high as no. 4. The first single from the album – Whatever You Want – was released on 14 September, with Hard Ride as the B-side, and also reached a peak position of no. 4. The album was remixed for the US market and this version was released in the US with the title Now Hear This in 1980.
