UK 1970

Steamhammer (aka Reflection) was the debut album issued in 1969 by the British blues-rock band Steamhammer. Steamhammer was chosen as legendary blues guitarist Freddy King's backing band whenever he toured England. The musicians in the band were Martin Quittenton (guitar), Kieran White (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Martin Pugh (guitar), Steve Davy (bass), and Michael Rushton (drums).

The album included classic blues numbers by B.B. King ("You'll Never Know") and Eddie Boyd ("Twenty-four Hours"), as well as compositions by band members White, Quittenton, and Pugh. The session musicians Harold McNair (flute) and Pete Sears (piano) also played on the album.  Already in 1970 the song "Junior's Wailing" was recorded by Status Quo on their album Ma Kelly's Greasy  Spoon.

Steamhammer started out as a blues-rock band in Worthing, Sussex, but gradually developed into a more heavy progressive style. Their debut Steamhammer included the self-penned Junior's Wailing, which was later covered by Status Quo. Indeed it became an important part of Status Quo's live act as they evolved into a 12-bar boogie band. Pugh and Quittenton assisted Rod Stewart on his first album and Quittenton stayed with Stewart co-writing Maggie May with him and playing mandolin on the million-selling disc.

IMPOSSIBLY RARE PROG LP!!! Most serious music nuts will know this band. This was also released on CBS with a different cover and is slightly easier to find as a CBS press. This REFLECTION press is far rarer though pressed a couple of months later, hardly ever turns up and is of superior vinyl quality!!! I can honestly say that I've seen more copies of that over the years than I've EVER seen of this Reflection press!!! This barely EVER comes around, so be sure not to miss out!!!

 Ultra Rare Original 1970 UK 1st Press!!! This MASSIVELY RARE LP initially sold barely anything  and  had a very small run, it is INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND, especially in this condition!!!  THE SLEEVE IS IN NICE CONDITION WITH A LITTLE EDGE AND CORNER WEAR. THE SPINE IS STRONG AND FIRM, CONTAINING THE FULL ORIGINAL TEXT. A CROSSED OUT NAME TO THE TOP FRONT. THE LABELS ARE IN NICE CONDITION WITH ONLY A FEW LIGHT SPINDLE MARKS. THE DISC IS IN LOVELY SHAPE: CLEAN, CRISP AND BRIGHT, RETAINING ITS ORIGINAL SHEEN WITH JUST A COUPLE OF EXTREMELY LIGHT SURFACE MARKS ON EITHER SIDE. ONE FEELABLE HALF A CM MARK ON TRACK 1 WHICH UNBELIEVABLY CANNOT BE HEARD AT ALL. A SMALL HALF A CM MARK ON THE 1ST TRACK SIDE 2 CAUSING A COUPLE OF LIGHT CLICKS ON THE FIRST FEW REVOLUTION S .RECORD PLAYS EXTREMELY WELL WITH NO PROBLEMATIC LOSS IN SOUND QUALITY OR AURAL PERFORMANCE AND CAN STILL BE ENJOYED ENORMOUSLY. ALL IN ALL, A KNOCKOUT COPY OF A VERY RARE ALBUM

The absolute rarity of this album is not to be underestimated. It hardly ever surfaces nowadays. This has a lovely deep glossy sheen!! Hauntingly beautiful songcraft!!! Immense quality prog/psych/blues folky album that ticks all the right boxes and incredibly hard to find. I have twentyfive years experience in grading. It doesn't get much better than this!!

In all my years this is only the second time I have come across this PROGMONSTER. Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

Vinyl: EX++ .  A sensational find!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. This is close to NM without any hairlines. Needless to say, NO jumps, sticks, clicks etc. A superb heavy glossy slab of quality vinyl. Fantastic songcraft!

 Sleeve: EX. A beautiful front laminated sleeve with a fully readable spine. The edges are deadstraight without wear. It has a light onset of ringwear. A very obscure album that rarely shows up these days.
