Description

For sale is the film soundtrack for West Side Story on the Columbia label, OS 2070. Lp, which is in poor condition and could be easily acquired in much better condition, is being sold entirely for the autograph by the musical's lyricist, Stephen Sondheim. This was his first major work, which launched his career as the most successful theater lyricist of the second half of the 20th century.
This comes from the Washington D.C. estate of Arthur "Art" Meyers. Meyers started collecting theater autographs as a military recruiter in Times Square, which he continued religiously after moving to Washington D.C. and becoming a high-ranking member of the USO. He was also a prolific literary autograph collector. Please see my other listings for several signed books from his collection.
