Here is a nice collection of rare classical records, two of which are mono the remaining are stereo. Most are 1st pressings & rare recordings.

COLUMBIA (33CX & SAX series)

1st pressings of the Columbia mono records had a deep blue label with gold lettering referred to as Blue/Gold. The stereophonic records had a pale turquoise blue with silver lines and black lettering. Some collectors with either refer these 1st stereo pressings as either Blue/Silver (B/s) or Turquoise/silver (T/s), it means the same thing. All records will clearly state that they are the 1st pressings. These will be the earliest pressing in that format. Some stereo pressings came with a gold stereophonic sticker to the cover or back.

His Master’s Voice (ALP series)

The first pressings of this HMV (ALP) series of records had a red label with gold lettering and the famous ‘Nipper’ dog picture in the top half of the label, with the words ‘His Master’s Voice’ printed in gold in a semi-circle around the picture. 1st pressings are referred to by collectors as Gold/Red.

His Master’s Voice (ASD series)

The 1st pressings of this (ASD) series of HMV records have a gold perimeter, a cream background and the Nipper dog is located at 12 o’clock to the label text. The words ‘His Master’s Voice’ are written in red directly beneath the Nipper picture and the word ‘stereophonic’ is printed in gold below this. All other label text is in red. Collectors refer to this 1st pressing label as (Gold/cream)

DECCA (SXL 2000 series)

The Decca SXL 2000 series first started in 1958, 1st pressings have black labels with silver lettering. A circular groove runs around the label, about 1.5cm from the edge with the words ‘Original Recording by the Decca Co. Ltd’ printed around the top half of the label. The Decca logo, also in silver, is printed in large letters, with FFSS circular logo printed above and the words ‘Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound’ filling a 1cm silver band running the full width across the label below. Collectors refer to these 1st pressings as (wide band grooved) or (WBg). Some of the first records released have a ‘pancake’ design to the Decca logo on the cover of the sleeve, usually found in the early box-sets. 2nd pressings or records produced between 1963 and 1967 had the ‘Original Recordings’ text changed to ‘Made in England by the Decca co. ltd London’. These are referred to as (Wide Band) or (WB) pressings. 3rd pressings have a ‘Decca’ silver box to the label, referred to as (Narrow Band) or (NB)

SXL 2180/1 – PUCCINI (stereophonic, 1st pressing)

originally issued as a box set with 2 records & insert booklet. This is missing the box but has both records, with original inner sleeves & booklet. The booklet has the rare 'pancake' label, thus making it the earlest pressing. One record has light marks but both play well. Otherwise all excellent.

RCA (SB-2000 Living Stereo series)

1st pressing of this stereophonic series have a red label with a round silver RCA logo to the centre with the words Living Stereo printed in silver. A deep groove runs around the label about 1.5cm from the edge. Collectors refer to these as either (English RCA 1st label), ‘ER1’ or (Silver Spot grooved), (SS/g)

SB-2045 – TCHAIKOVSKY (stereophonic, 1st pressing)

• sleeve & inner are in excellent condition, the record has one tiny mark but does not stop playing enjoyment otherwise excellent.
