This is my EX (sleeve) / MINT / UNPLAYED copy of this RARE VINYL LP by STEVE GIBBONS - "SHORT STORIES" - released on WIZARD Records through EMI in 1971. This is an LP that has remained ignored by collectors for a long time. Now the interest is growing and in my opinoin about time. As an ex-Brummie with a few years under the belt I have seen Steve play many times and let us not forget The Who thought he was worth getting involved with a few years after this album was recorded. Steve was a musicians musician and front man, in control and a great songwriter. So why be interested now? This is not a cliche ridden "psych monster" or whatever bullshit people throw at inferior PROG records, that in the words of John Peel "didn't sell very well at the time because quite frankly, they weren't very good". This album from Steve Gibbons is subtle, has some great musicians and some great playing, but most of all it is the quality of Steve's songs that stands out. Well thats what I think, its up to you to find out. This copy has a MINT / UNPLAYED disc. Nothing more to say about that really. The beautiful 'cartoon' gatefold sleeve is near perfect but it is not laminated and made of rather delicate card and has light shelf wear on the edges and this is enough to have to say EXCELLENT only. The spine is perfect and fully readable. The sleeve 'feels' new. There is a tiny split in the top of the back half of the gatefold at the record opening ( a couple of cms.) which is invisible to the eye unless you look for it or of course move the record in and out (which was how I noticed it). There is a strong Island records connection here and it certainly influences the sound of this LP, because it is produced by Traffic's producer Jimmy Miller and Spooky Tooth's US keyboard player Gary Wright, so now you can see why it sounds so good to the ear! LYRIC SHEET MINT. A GREAT AND TRUELY UNDERATED LP THAT IS STARTING TO GRAB THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES.
