VINYL is NEAR MINT-
Full Gloss Vinyl, very close to new with only a faint small cosmetic sheen mark on Side 1; otherwise pristine. Labels are extremely clean both sides with no spindle marks.

COVER is VG+
Crisp, super-clean with mere touch of faintest shelf wear; a few mild small edge creases at top. Would be EX+ but for small mark/surface tear on back at lower left corner, where LP was slightly stuck to another record in box. All edges straight, all corners sharp; seams and spine 100% intact with no splits.

"...though Music for 18 Musicians includes repeated patterns, a steadily moving tempo, and other such devices that characterize Steve Reich's innovative works of the late 1960s and early 1970s, it is distinguished by an unprecedented harmonic variety and richness of sonority. In landmark composition, Music for 18 Musicians’ organizational clarity is superseded by a more intuitive approach that takes aural appeal as its chief priority.

Music for 18 Musicians provides the first glimpse of Reich's skill and imagination as an orchestrator and is extremely rich in harmonic variety.  The harmonic structure for the entire work is introduced in the opening section: 11 lush, undulating chords successively unfold, fading in and out.

In all sections, the composer explores unlikely sound combinations, from the upper-register violin, piano, and xylophone to the dark resonance of bass clarinet, cello, metallophone and a plethora of various marimbas, to the veiled presence of wordless voices. These colors and textures are juxtaposed and superimposed to create passages of near transparency as well as moments of grandeur.
Music for 18 Musicians stands not only as Reich's most important work, but also a milestone of the late twentieth century."

who was a DJ at the Radio Station I co-founded in the 1970's - and who worked for me at my California record store in the '70s and '80s. . Sadly he has now left this mortal coil, bequeathing me his deep Vinyl Mine.
