While Stevie Nicks had the most recognizable voice in Fleetwood Mac, there was no guarantee she could craft the same kind of pop-rock magic without the help of the Mac's guiding force, Lindsey Buckingham.

As such BELLA DONNA found her emerging surprisingly strong as a solo talent. Part of the credit goes to Tom Petty, who gave her an excellent song in "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" (and duets with her on it). During her first six years with Fleetwood Mac, she amassed a large back catalog of songs. In 1981, she felt it was time to record some of them and the result was BELLA DONNA.

Employing a crack back up band that included members of the Heartbreakers and Roy Bittan from the E Street Band, the album combines rockers to the mid-tempo "Bella Donna" and "Outside Rain" along with ballads like her gorgeous duet with Don Henley, "Leather and Lace". But another high point isthe urgently rocking "Edge of Seventeen". The album hit the top of the charts and proved Stevie Nicks had the goods to make it on her own.
