STIFF LITTLE FINGERS - FLAGS & EMBLEMS - ORIGINAL LIMITED UNNUMBERED PROMO PICTURE DISC ALBUM.

Prior to becoming Stiff Little Fingers, Jake Burns and Henry Cluney were playing in a rock covers band called Highway Star in Belfast, this wasn't really going anywhere, then Henry discovered punk, and introduced it to the rest of the band.

They then decided that Highway Star was not quite a punk enough name, and after a brief flirtation with the name "The Fast", they finally decided to call themselves Stiff Little Fingers after a Vibrators track, Jake has often said Stiff Little Fingers was only going to be a temporary name while they came up with something better but could never think of anything so Stiff Little Fingers they stayed.

Jake the frontman and the main songwriter was heavily influenced by Joe Strummer and The Clash, according to Jake "What The Clash did more than anything else was give me the confidence, to realise it was OK to write about my own life and experiences." and so the songwriting began in earnest amid the bombs and bullets of a troubled Belfast.

The bands decision to write songs about the sheer terror and hardship for young people growing up in The Troubles proved to be controversial. Some other Northern Irish punk bands felt that songs about the Troubles was exploiting the sectarian conflict, these sharp political differences were reinforced by musical differences too as SLF's gritty and angry punk sound was at loggerheads with the more melodic pop punk of softer bands like The Undertones and Rudi.

Some of this unfair criticism was simply down to band rivalries and petty jealousy, the real truth of the matter was SLF were leaving everyone else behind, their fan base was growing at a serious pace and this increased amount of interest in the band inspired their move to London, this bold move would eventually lead them on to bigger and better things.

The band were always popular on the live punk circuit so when they called it a day their fans took it hard but they were never forgotten as a sell out reunion concert would prove beyond any doubt in future years.

The Flags and Emblems album was a re energised reunited band delivering the punk rock goods, they were back together as a living, breathing touring band and are still together today, still touring, still breathing, still burning.

This limited unnumbered promo picture disc looks in great condition overall, note due to its age there are some small faint lines of discolouration to the picture underneath but this is minor thing.

Don't miss out on this must have promo album for any serious Stiff Little Fingers or Punk rock record collector - not many of these about that's for sure.
