Description
STIFF BOX SET ONE - FIRST ISSUE
Limited edition box set of the first ten singles on Stiff Records in original sleeves. (BUY 1 - 10). Issued in 1978 by Stiff as a limited edition of 5000, although half of these were broken up by Stiff themselves. The set was re-issued in 1979, with minor differences in labels, sleeves and packaging, but the set offered here is the original first issue (1978).
Differences between the first issue and the 1979 re-issue are as follows:
The first issue includes an info sheet (see pic), which was no longer included in the re-issue.
Although limited to 5000, the first issue was NOT numbered (second issue boxes had a number stamped inside).
Neither the box, nor the record labels in the first issue box have 'Made in England' on them.
Record sleeves in the first issue had a straight cut-out (see pic). Stiff began using a curved cut-out at the end of 1978, and all records in the second issue have this curved cut-out.
The Richard Hell record (BUY 7) is numbered 0001 in all second issue sets, but is stamped with an actual number (above 5000) in first issue sets. It is numbered 8566 in this set.
The sleeves in second issue sets are thicker and the label area was raised (the records fill up the box), whereas the first issue sets have noticeably thinner sleeves and the labels are flush with the records, making the box look 'not quite full'.
All the records and sleeves are in mint condition. However, the box has had a few knocks, and one of the corners has been repaired. it also has a rip on one side. Otherwise it is as can be seen in the pictures.
