STRAY ‘STRAY’ ORIGINAL 1970 A1 + B1 TRANSATLANTIC VINYL LP IN DIE-CUT GATEFOLD SLEEVE
Sleeve Condition: This is a notoriously difficult sleeve to find in decent condition. The gatefold is a single, thin, un-reinforced card, delicately die-cut with the band’s name. I’ve never seen a copy of this with a sleeve as well preserved as this one. I acquired it in a plastic sleeve and I suspect that it has been kept in it the whole of its life. There is a light crease at the leading edge but apart from that, the entire sleeve is Near Mint. There is no writing, marking, tears or damage. The inside is crisp, bright and looks like the day it came out of the shop. Given that that was 40 years ago that isn’t bad going! A lovely thing!
Record Condition: Again, a wonderfully looked after item. Most I suspect would list this as Mint but I am grading it as Ex+/Near Mint. A bit of ‘ssh’ on the run in groove which disappears before the music starts. Plays fine, is fine and a better example would be very, very hard to turn up.

Stray seems a forgotten hard rock band from the early seventies who were young, sloppy and BRILLIANT. Stuffed full of a naive energy that was sorely lacking from music at that point. Anyone interested in a record of thundering boogie and howling anthems with oft hilarious themes ("Around the World in Eighty Days" anyone?) that's in part reminiscent of MC5's Back in the USA yet distinctly British could go much worse than popping this into their heads.
This, their first album captures a rarely heard psychedelic hard-rock sound. It somehow conjures a weird blend of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Black Sabbath, The Yardbirds and Wishbone Ash (more in the vocals than anything). The style is probably closest to psychedelic-era Yardbirds, but with a heavier and more mature sound. Undoubtedly their best, this original vinyl copy is in wonderful condition.
