Description

Strictly Personal by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, released 1968 on Bob Krasnow's brand-new subsidiary Blue Thumb Records. This is a very early reissue from 1971 on the white Blue Thumb label, with the same catalog number BTS 1. The is the great Captain's trippiest affair, loaded with sound effects (flanging, backwards guitar, etc) which must've really blew some heads back in the day. This album came amidst massive legal issues and between two undisputed masterpieces, so it seems to have been unjustly forgotten amongst the annals of time. I think this is one of the band's best albums. There's one CD reissue of this album, but it has tape issues, so you need to find an original LP. This first reissue is a nice placeholder for a mint 1st pressing, which are very hard to find in clean condition. 
The cover of this copy has some rubbing wear, small tearing, light staining, and a 4.5" seam split on the top. The inner gatefold is pretty clean, but I grade the cover as Good (G) due to the other issues. The disc is nicer, with just some light sleeve marks on both sides; however, this is a very quiet pressing and light background crackle can be heard throughout. Still, it is an enjoyable listen, and being an all-analog master it is without any of the unnecessary digital processing that plagues the CD. The disc is visually at about the Very Good Plus (VG+) level. This is a great starter copy of this underrated '60s album.
