Disclaimer: As a seller, I am committed to buyers' satisfaction. In the event you are dissatisfied with a purhcase, please contact me as I am happy to help. Please know I am not a professional record collector. I am, however, a seasoned amateur who has spent years buying and selling records as a hobby. I use Goldmine's "Record Grading 101" as a guide when assessing a record's condition. I grade conservatively as I would rather buyers be pleasantly surprised by an item's condition than disappointed. I typically avoid assigning ratings of MINT condition to any item as even brand new albums have imperfections (sleeve scuffing, corner dings, etc...). A significantly condensed version of the ratings I adhere to follows (Please seek out Goldmine's guide for more detailed explanations of these ratings):
MINT (M) - A perfect album with no flaws or imperfections
Near Mint (NM) - Nearly perfect with only the slightest of minor imperfections
Very Good+ (VG+) - Record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Defects should be more of a cosmetic nature, not affecting the actual playback as a whole. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are acceptable. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. Spindle marks may be present. Picture sleeves and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, slightly turned-up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut corner.
Very Good (VG) - Noticeable evidence of mild groove wear, scuffing and/or light scratching (deep enough to see and feel with a fingernail). Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers.
Good+ / Good (G+ or G) - Will have significant surface noise and visible wear in addition to likely imperfections on the label. A record in Good or Good+ condition can be played through without skipping, but it will have significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear, or other defects will be present. While the record will be playable without skipping, noticeable surface noise and "ticks" will accompany playback.
Fair (F) / Poor (P) - The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP cover barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves are fully split, crinkled, and written upon.
Item Description:
Up for bid is an original sealed but worn Enigma Records issue of Stryper's 1988 LP In God We Trust. This record remains sealed in its original factory shrink wrap, though the album shows notable wear on the exterior. While the record has never been used, I suspect the vinyl will show some wear just from sleeve rubbing inside the sealed jacket. I don't want to open the album, so please know this record is being sold "as-is" since I cannot verify the condition of the vinyl. The outer jacket rates as being in overall GOOD (G) condtion. The cover has a cutout notch near the top left of the front cover near the hype sticker. Though sealed, the cover shows wear in places where the shrink wrap has come loose--most notably the spine where the artist's name and title of the album appears. Likewise, the shrink wrap is coming loose at the top left rear corner near the bar code; the shrink wrap is also partially split on the open side of the LP jacket. Please review the accompaying photos as they show the exact album up for auction. I don't want buyers to be disappointed, so please take note of the condition of the record. While this record is still technically factory sealed, it certainly shows wear on the jacket as shown.
