Description

You are looking at an original 1986 US pressing of Stryper's "To Hell With the Devil" on Enigma Records (PJAS-73237) — the band's breakthrough platinum-selling album, featuring the original gatefold cover with the controversial "angel" artwork.

PRESSING DETAILS

- Label: Enigma Records, distributed by Capitol Records
- Catalog: PJAS-73237
- Year: 1986
- Pressed by Allied Record Company
- Gatefold sleeve with the original "angel destroying the devil" cover artwork
- Includes black & white "Official Stryper Merchandise Order Form" insert

IMPORTANT COVER NOTE

This release features the original gatefold artwork depicting an angel battling a devil figure — artwork that drew controversy and complaints from some parents and retailers upon release in 1986. Enigma later replaced it with a plain text-only cover for subsequent pressings. The original angel-cover gatefold, as featured on this copy, is the more sought-after version among collectors.

THE LINEUP

- Michael Sweet — Lead Vocals, Guitar
- Oz Fox — Guitar, Backing Vocals
- Tim Gaines / Brad Cobb — Bass
- Robert Sweet — Drums

WHY THIS RECORD MATTERS

"To Hell With the Devil" was Stryper's commercial peak, going platinum in the US and producing the hit singles "Honestly" and "Free." It remains the band's best-known and most collected release, and the original angel-cover gatefold pressing is considered the definitive version by longtime fans.

CONDITION

VINYL: VG+ approaching Excellent — Clean grooves with good sheen. Plays with good clarity. Light signs of age consistent with a 40-year-old record, nothing that detracts from the listening experience.

COVER: VG+ — Vivid gatefold artwork displays well with strong color. Light wear on edges and corners consistent with age. No splits, no water damage.

I grade conservatively using Goldmine standards.
