Description on Back:
Stu Williamson has recently been developing as a fresh voice among the newer stars. Not in the self-consciously- restrained, "stepping over eggshells" groove, but after the tradition of Dizzy, Fats, Miles, etc. Not yet twenty-two, he has already taken his place alongside the half-dozen or so other trumpet players who presently form the core of the fairly permanent West Coast jazz scene. Stu was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on May 14th 1933. His father was a drummer and his sister a singer. Big brother Clause, one the finer jazz pianists around today, is heard on this LP along with Stu. The Williamson family moved to California in 1948 and Stu studied trumpet there with Del Staigers. Three years later, Stan Kenton hired him as a member of the Innovations II band. Stu has also worked with the bands of Skinny Ennis, Billy May, Woody Herman, and with the Lighthouse All-Stars at Hermosa Beach. In addition to playing a facile, tasteful trumpet, he is a very talented valve trombonist and can be heard on that instrument with Zoot Sims in a previous recording fro another jazz label.
Charlie Mariano needs little introduction here. That his wonderful alto is present and sufficient. Charlie recently did a date for Bethlehem under his own name (Bethlehem BCP-10022). The rhythm section of Stan Levey, Claude Williamson and Max Bennett seems to be one of the more felicitous arrangements to come to the West Coast area. The result here are consistent with their recent effects on the Bethlehem label ( Stan and Max also have their own albums on the label). Those results are a driving swinging, thoughtful beat.

Some ring wear, wear at corners, slight separation of lamination along opening.
Record in overall excellent condition.
